2003-08-15 - 3:38 p.m. You're not afraid of the dark... are ya?Previous Entry <========> Next Entry12:45 PM 8/15/2003 I think I might have found a way to do my updates while I'm in the studio manning the sound board for the talk show. I just wish there were another small desk or something in here to put the laptop on so that it isn't blocking anything. Silly turntables, whoever uses those archaic things anymore? ;) So, unless you just spend the last 20 hours under a rock (or away from TV, radio, internet or people), you know that a good portion of the Northeast United States plus major areas in Southeast Canada abruptly lost power or had fluctuating levels of power yesterday afternoon. Many places recovered quickly, some places regained power overnight, some this morning... and many thousands are still waiting. NYC, the city that never sleeps, especially at night... was brought to a standstill right during rush hour traffic. I've seen pictures of the Manhattan skyline sans lights with a beautiful sunset in the background... it was beautiful, but creepy. While I was at work I experienced no issues, we were operating at full power, as was a good portion of downtown Rochester. The concert going on behind our building (sponsored by a rival broadcasting conglomerate), so after I went home to check on the 18 year old and change clothes, I went over to the concert for a bit. Had dinner, came home and the girl next door told me that cute neighbor across the street was having a get together in his back yard. Ooooh, I was gonna get to meet Wife-y. Number one, they are actually married, maybe about a year or so. She's an M as well, and we actually got along very well... in fact, as the party of 6 was winding down she and I were sitting close and cracking up over silly things. So, I'm cool with her, but it doesn't mean I won't covet her man... I just don't have malicious feelings towards her anymore. The girl next door, G, was a little annoying as she got more and more inebriated because she likes to talk and is very opinionated, and it was hard to get a word in edge wise at times. There was also a sense that she actually knew Ma & Me before she moved into the house, and they had mutual friends... so it was a sense of being the new kid. But they made me feel very welcome, but then again apparently Ma gets very overfriendly when he's drunk ;) I thought it rather odd and just slightly uncomfortable that Me was making fun of the fact that he likes to go around Commando, and conversation seemed to linger for a long time on dangling appendages, lack of underwear, and how she thinks that testicles look like shriveled up apples and that male genitalia is absolutely disgusting looking. Around 1:30a we heard an odd buzzing from the next yard and noticed the backyard light on the house next door coming on... and slowly streetlamps started coming on. Truthfully, I was a little disappointed because it was highly enjoyable talking by candlelight. It suddenly became cold and impersonal... and Ma was falling asleep in his chair... and I did have to go to work this AM... so we said goodnight and we all went home. Right now, I'm very very tired, and slightly hung over... but it was kind of nice the way the darkness brought folks together. Ma even made a comment that I was finally coming into the backyard when i showed up, and he was quite happy about it... and Me made me feel very welcome. I suppose that's about it. Next hour I have my soap to keep me occupied and I can't block the TV with this behemoth of a laptop. ciao!
