2003-08-11 - 11:35 a.m. Gregory Hines Dies at 57Previous Entry <========> Next EntryI was very sad and shocked when I heard this on NPR this morning. See, the thing I liked about Gregory Hines was simply that he was a phenomenal dancer, but he was also charismatic and stylish and no matter what he did, he always had this air of elegance about him. He made dancing look as easy and natural as walking. The most impressive thing I'd ever seen of him was in the Showtime Biopic Bojangles, and I remember they made a point of showing that one signature vaudville routine of Bojangles was copied step for step (unintended, sorry) by Hines "Also be sure to watch the end credits as Gregory Hines' choreography on a routine is screened opposite Bojangles' original steps." - from the IMDb.com summary. Apparently, even his publicist didn't know that Hines suffered from Cancer, and was as much suprised as the rest of the world. Bob Hope you kind of expected, I mean... the man was 100 yrs old and tottering about as it was... but Gregory Hines? Still dancing at the top of his form, still charismatic, still lively, still amazing? The skies shine a bit dimmer tonight, a truly brilliant star has burned away. Rest in Peace, G.
